Ride: I love rear engine planes. It’s like having rear drive car. You just get this shove from behind rather then pull. This applies to take of as well as when in the air and the engines are throttled up.

Seats: they’re okay for an airplane. A little tight and not very comfortable. I prefer Southwest 737-800/900. There were also maybe 15 people on the plane so plenty of room today to stretch and breath.

Noise: It’s pretty loud. Could barely hear the flight attendant but I was 4 rows from the engines so that’s to be expected as well.

Ride: On the ground you can definitely tell your in a small plane rather then something 737 sizes. In the air it’s not too much different from others. We were flying with a storm front so a bit bumpier than usual.

Overall: Its a plane. It works and it got me to my destination. 7/10 would fly again.

I was guessing Q400 from your previous post. I was close with the maker, the nose looked familiar.

I’ve always said that if they just beefed up the seats a little, I’d take one cross country. Sitting in the front half is quieter than any wing-engined jet out there. And since the wings are so far aft, most of the seats have unencumbered views outward.

I also wish there wasn’t mandatory gate check for anything bigger than a laptop. That might vary by airline.

But at the end of the day, you know you’re flying in the first cousin of a business jet. Not the sister of a cargo plane (anything 737/A320 or larger).

I’m about to get on one of the last of the AA MD80's. My seat is at the back by the engines. It’s gonna be loud. I’m excited though - AA is phasing them out and I’ll miss them when they’ve all been supplanted by 737's and A32X’s.

I’ve ridden in the back way too many times on super 80s from California and back. I welcome bigger planes than those hah.

Good point on the business jet thing. I like the plane for sure. I could see how they get turned into high class vehicles, especially with sound deadening. I could do without hitting my head on the ceiling and having to turn my head sideways while trying to pee though.

Yup, Q400s are still fun to fly on.

I flew on an MD88 today, had a seat over the wing and with my noise canceling head phones on, it was pretty quiet.

Noise cancelling headphones are something I should quit dragging my feet about getting.

6’2”

I think the center aisle in the 200-series is 6’ even.

The bathroom’s about 5’8”!

Not exactly luxurious for a $700 ticket on a 1-hour flight. Hooray for American Airlines and their route monopolies.

But why? They’re loud, inefficient.... oh wait I’m on Oppo, makes sense now. Save the MD80’s!

In my experience they have more seat room am done better seat cushions in economy than the planes replacing them. So it’s more of missing the older AA planes than missing the MD-80 in particular.

I’ve had a pair since 2014, highly recommend them. Got a pair of nose QC35s now, parents got me them for Xmas. Had a pair of QC15s before.
